In April 2022, I was a 15-year-old high school sophomore recovering from an ACL injury and uncertain about my future in sports. I wanted to get back on the field and make the varsity team, and I’m proud to say that by my junior year, I was playing again, and I finished my senior year strong.
During my college search, I decided to pursue an ROTC scholarship, but I was worried my knee, which still “clicked,” might hold me back. After consulting with my doctor, we decided on a scar tissue removal surgery in April 2023, just before the ROTC physical fitness test. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and after a brief recovery, I was able to train for the test.
For four months, I trained hard, getting up at 5 a.m. to run and work out. In September 2023, I competed in an ROTC event at UIC, where I excelled in the Physical Fitness Test, ranking #2 for the female 2-mile run and exceeding the sit-up requirement. I earned a 3-year ROTC scholarship to my top choice, WIC, and a 4-year national ROTC scholarship, which covers my college tuition through a unique early commission program.
I’m now attending Valley Forge Military College in Pennsylvania with plans to transfer to Liberty University for my bachelor’s degree. With a 3.9 GPA, I’m also a member of the Range Challenge Team A, which competes nationally at Ft. Knox.
I’m incredibly grateful for the care and support that made this journey possible.
