Brian Cole, MD, MBA. Midwest Orthopedics at Rush (Chicago). Dr. Cole is chairman of surgery at Rush Oak Park (Ill.) Hospital and section head of the Cartilage Research and Restoration Center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, which focuses on treating arthritis in young and active patients. He is also a professor in Rush University Medical Center’s department of orthopedics. In addition, he is a member of Midwest Orthopedics at Rush, a practice of more than 40 orthopedists in business for more than 30 years. Dr. Cole is an investor in Gold Cost Surgicenter.
In his work, Dr. Cole has researched and developed several new techniques for the treatment of shoulder, elbow and knee conditions, including cartilage restoration to repair otherwise permanently injured joints. He lectures internationally, has published five orthopedics textbooks and more than 1,000 articles and has co-hosted a Saturday morning sports medicine program on Chicago’s WMVP-AM/1000, the proceeds of which he uses to fund orthopedic research, according to a report from Crain’s Chicago Business.
Dr. Cole is team physician for the Chicago Bulls, co-team physician for the White Sox and co-team physician for DePaul University’s sports teams in Chicago. He was recently responsible for operating on Chicago Bull Derrick Rose’s left knee, an operation which allowed the basketball player to return to the game after an 18 month hiatus. Dr. Cole also repaired Mr. Rose’s knee when he re-injured it during the fall of 2013 along with his colleague, Charles Bush-Joseph, MD.
